Enjoy México in Spanish: A Guide to MEXICAN Spanish
The Guadalajara Reporter called EnjoyMéxico in Spanish a "quirky, unusual and immensely
practical little book that could accomplish the impossible: make neophyte
expat gringos communicate in Spanish."
Enjoy México in Spanish grew out of David Bodwell's frustration with existing
phrasebooks, which are mostly written for the British traveler, or meant to
approximate a dialect -- and vocabulary -- very different from that used in
México. Unlike traditional phrasebooks Enjoy México in Spanish neither "makes do" with approximations of Mexican
Spanish sounds, not relies on a complicated scheme of phonetic symbols.
Nor does it depend on memorizing one phrase that may or may not be applicablein any given situation. Instead, people using Enjoy México in Spanish
learn to build basic sentences that -- properly pronounced --
are understandable and unlikely to confuse a waiter... a travel agent... or the
police.

After several years knocking around the Pacific Northwest, E.G. Bosques' War
Nearly unknown, even in México,
Bosques outwitted Spanish fascists, the Gestapo and even Japanese spies as he successfully whisked tens of thousands -- Spanish Republicans, entire Jewish communities, British agents, Resistance leaders and many others -- from certain death in Nazi Occupied Vichy France. Casablanca was only a Hollywood version of one very small piece of a complex dangerous operation largely organized and run by Bosques from his Mexican consular office.
Bosques -- who would later play an essential role in defusing the Cuban Missile Crisis -- was interviewed about his diplomatic career when he was approaching his 100th birthday. Until Editorial Mazatlán made this
translation by Richard Grabman (who also wrote the accompanying essay on
Bosques and Mexican diplomacy before and during World War II) nothing was
available in English on this forgotten World War II and human rights hero outside of some dusty archives.

Riete en Español
Jeremy Taylor -- an international English as a
Second Language educational expert (presently working in eastern Europe), has
written a series of bilingual joke books for younger students. Written
for young Spaniards learning British English, there are enough
differences between the Spanish of Spain and the Spanish of Mexico --
as well as the English of the Great Britain and the English of the
United States, that a special Mexican-U.S. edition required extensive
revision.
